SCHMERSAL Group has introduced a brand-new HDS series of switches tailored for the heavy industry. This modular product line, integrating multiple functions, finds extensive applications across various heavy industries. Based on a standardized housing concept, two housing options are available: high-strength plastic (thermoset plastic) and cast iron. The plastic housing, renowned for its corrosion resistance, is ideally suited for port logistics, loading and unloading operations, as well as the processing of fertilizers, minerals, and phosphates in the agricultural industry, among many other applications. The robust cast iron version, on the other hand, excels in mining, bulk material transportation, and refining industries.
Functionally, this series can be categorized into two types: emergency stop switches, designed as emergency pull-cord switches, and position monitoring switches. The basic switch bodies of the position monitoring switches can be flexibly combined with a range of actuators. Typical application areas encompass emergency stop shutdowns, conveyor belt deviation monitoring in bulk material handling, end position monitoring in the steel industry, and material level monitoring in silos. With protection ratings up to IP66 and IP67, these switches can withstand extreme environmental conditions.
All basic switch bodies can optionally be connected to the Dupline installation bus or AS-I-Safety-at-Work bus for quick and convenient networking, series connection of switches, and improved transmission of diagnostic data. The central terminal wiring featuring CAGE and CLAMP technology also aids in reducing installation time.
All switchgear meets the requirements for safety switches. Furthermore, the HDS platform products have obtained a series of international certifications, including CE (Europe), UL (USA), CCC (China), EAC (Russia), Ex, IECEx (explosion protection, global), and INMETRO (Brazil, South America).
The modular HDS switch platform offers flexible usage across a wide range of applications. Additionally, its global certifications enable worldwide deployment.
SCHMERSAL's Flexible and Modular Switch Platform
The all-new generation of SCHMERSAL HDS switches, based on a standardized housing concept, offers a choice between cast iron or high-strength plastic (thermoset plastic) housings. The plastic version, with its corrosion resistance, is suitable for port logistics, fertilizer manufacturing, and phosphate-related agrochemical industries. The sturdy gray cast iron version is ideal for open-pit mining, bulk cargo shipping, and material handling industries. Functionally, it can be used for emergency stop and most position monitoring applications. Depending on the specific application environment, various actuator kits are available to monitor position information. For better remote monitoring, all models can be optionally equipped with dual-line fieldbus solutions or additional indicator lights. The products have passed a series of international certifications, meeting the requirements for global product sales.
SCHMERSAL HDS Application Scenarios
The flexible and modular fourth-generation switch platform can be widely applied in various heavy industries.
This series of switches can be used for emergency stop functions or position monitoring of mobile machines and equipment components requiring a safety level of PL e.
The rugged housings with protection ratings of IP66 or IP67 ensure the normal operation of this series of switches under harsh environmental conditions.

Connection
SCHMERSAL HDS series switches protect the switch axis, cam, and switch contacts through sealed covers to prevent dust and dirt from affecting installation and use in harsh environments. In standard versions, both NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) contacts are connected to the central CAGE CLAMP® terminal block. Therefore, emergency stop pull cord switches, conveyor belt deviation switches, etc., can be wired simply and efficiently. If needed, indicator lights can also be added. Safety or standard two-wire bus systems can also be used as an option for signal evaluation. In this case, only input and output signal wires need to be connected, reducing installation and wiring time. The integrated cable conduit also facilitates easy and quick installation.
