At the SPS IPC Drives 2018 in Nuremberg, Schmersal Group presented the brand-new safety junction box SFB-PN-IRT-8M12-IOP. This safety junction box for PROFINET/PROFIsafe systems was launched in 2019, capable of accommodating up to 8 safety devices and featuring easy installation with plug-and-play functionality.

　　Thanks to its universal interface with 8-pin M12 connectors, it can connect a wide range of safety devices, including electronic and electromechanical safety interlocks, switches, sensors, light curtains, and operator panels. Even safety devices from other manufacturers can be easily connected using adapters.

　　Signals from the connected safety devices are transmitted to the safety controller for evaluation via a reliable PROFINET/PROFIsafe fieldbus interface. PROFIsafe extends the functionality of standard communication over PROFINET with safety. Communication based on PROFIsafe prevents tampering, transmission errors, message sequence changes, and similar issues. The parallel transmission of safety signals allows the flexible connection of safety devices to the safety controller. The device connections of the junction box can also be configured to connect different devices, providing maximum flexibility in the conceptual design of safety solutions. Additionally, all device connections are equipped with self-resetting fuse elements to protect the circuitry. After eliminating overcurrent in the connection, the fuse elements will reset automatically after a brief cooling period.
